Children's Services

The Response Ability project team has completed a multi-media resource to support the training of children’s services staff undertaking the CHC08 Children’s Services courses through Vocational Education and Training.

This comprehensive resource package was developed in consultation with early childhood practitioners, industry peak bodies, and Vocational Education and Training teachers.  It encompasses the social and emotional development and wellbeing of children from birth to six.  The material explores the roles of Children's Services in promoting positive social and emotional development for good mental health, working in partnership with families to support wellbeing, and assisting with early intervention.

About the resources

Key elements of the resource include;

  • Six films made in authentic early childhood settings in Australia;
  • Interviews with experienced early childhood practitioners;
  • Genuine interactions with children and families;
  • Realistic case study scenarios for students to examine;
  • Over 100 practical student activities linked to the CHC08 competencies;
  • Notes for facilitators with all student activities;
  • Practical advice on promoting mental health and supporting early intervention; and
  • 20 student handouts on key issues.

The Children's Services Vocational Education and Training (VET) resource will be distributed free of charge to all TAFE Institutes and other Registered Training Organisations in Australia that deliver Children's Services training including Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care; or Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

How do we relate to other Initiatives?

The Response Ability initiative complements and strengthens existing school based and early years mental health initiatives and policies by preparing the next generation of professionals.  Response Ability also has strong partnerships with KidsMatter Early Childhood Initiative, and other activities supported under the Commonwealth’s New Early Intervention Services for Parents, Children and Young People.
